UÄŸur RuÅŸen DoÄŸan interview.

UÄŸur RuÅŸen DoÄŸan is a benchmark in the aquarium in Turkey and in many countries.

Enthusiastic of African cichlids, more precisely Tropheus  of Lake Tanganyika, your aquariums are recognized internationally by the great naturalness and likeness to the natural habitat recreating them.

Hi UÄŸur thank you for giving us this interview.

Tell us a little of your early on this activity.

That age started to maintain ornamental fish and how it was that you started with African cichlids?

I was in adolescent age when I started this hobby. I had 2 goldfish in a simple aquarium. After a while I checked internet forums to see what kind of fish other people keep and what are they are paying attention to. It was 2013 when I had

decided to setup my first Malawi biotope. My tank was appreciated by every aquarist in my country.

We know that you keep an aquarium with biotope of Lake Tanganyika.

But which are the species that you like, and which would you like to stay?

Yes, Tanganyika is everything for me. I can say that there is no underwater photo picture or video of the lake that I haven't see. My priority was always Tropheus duboisi maswa. My sympathy began with Ad konings articles about the fish and popularity of the fish in my country.

Tell us about the wonderful Aquarium.

As it was planned and that you did for your biotope.

My biotope design is a duplicate of Kigoma under 40/50 meters. My only intention is to mimic a specific area in my biotope tanks and keep only the fish in that biotope.

My aquarium is 130x70x60 cm^3 and glass thicknessis 15 mm to eliminate all risks, glass is extra clear. As using 200 kg of rocks on glass could be dangerous, I used foam that is used to insulate heat in market over the bottom glass.

Background poster is applied on the wall rather than the back side to increase deepness effect. It ıs 8 cm apart from the aquarium. Aquarium gains a natural lake effect with the light exposed on background.

I used golden ratio to create my design. To have; deepness in the middle of design and required saturation, I ordered rocks from large to small in my perspective design.

Something that characterizes your aquariums is the great aspect of water

hat the equipment that you use for filtration and as do general maintenance of the Aquarium?

I did a lot of research in that topic and I used world brand Fluval FX6, There is sera siporax eheim substrat and fluval sponges in the filter. I also want to mention seachem purigen,I use JBL 300W heater ,I haven't used a wave pump yet but I think it is important for fish growth so I will buy one.I use 4 x 54 watt Philips 6500K fluorescent lamp. It all purpose is to grow algae

on rock. Fish gets vitamins and minerals by eating the algae and feeds this way in their natural environment.

An important point to be in mind in our aquariums is to maintain a good quality of water.

How do you maintain the quality of water and how and that do the measurements of the parameters?

I make 120 liter weekly water change. I test Gh,Kh,PH,Nitrit, nitrate and chlorine with JBL test lit weekly. I make proper changes depending on results. I use reeflowers cichlid salts as additives.

What foods give them and with periodicity to do it?

That kind of food do you recommend for each cichlids you keep?

I feed two times daily. I don't find it necessary to feed occasionally as fish feed on algae.
Foods that I use ; JBL spiriluna %40, Tropical spiriluna flakes, Osi spiriluna flakes, Omega one Veggie flakes, Dainichi Veggie fx baby ( Granül )

Ifeed with granuls on mornings, flakes on evenings. I  recommend all this well known foods to all African cichlid lover aquarists.

How you see the hobby in your country and how you think it is around the world?

There are already experts in aquascaping in Turkey. Every year, there were applications and successions in international contests for aquarists. We have attend for 4 - 5 years in international contest on Africa biotopes. Last year we got a degree, this year we got a degree again for our country.

We have a team that attend all international contests and I am admin of the group “Biyotop Akvaryum Tasarım Türkiye”,

which has a strong role on making biotope aquarium popular.

We are a family and we are planning to be internationally well known group by this contest applications for our country.

Finally, tell us what your bibliography of header and that web pages are those that frequent.

There is a big forum and site in Turkey which has a big impact to teach hobby, Akvaryum.com. After I meet you I think I will spend more time on foreign sites too. I started with Akvaryum.com forum and after being an experts, all of us create our own group.

I occasionally surf on facebook and check specific groups daily. I try toread all posts and try to help aquarists with my posts.

Thank you very much for your time UÄŸur and telling us about your great experience.
It is helpful to our growth as aquarists to be closer to references in the hobby around the world.

I'm so glad to spent my time with this interview. It is a privilege to be with platforms like yours that improve hobby.

Best Regards UÄŸur RuÅŸen DoÄŸan
